Flashman Cameron spends £680,000 of taxpayers money on Downing Street

Recommended Posts

I always thought places like 10 & 11 Downing Street publicly owned. If they were allowed to fall into disrepair, wouldn't that be more costly in the end?

Wiring, plumbing and other maintenance are normally carried out by property owners - if you are a tenant your landlord should ensure the work is done, and homeowners have to foot the bill themselves.

All government buildings are maintained out of public funds. If the refurb had included a 52" telly and other furnishing items then we'd have cause to complain, but it didn't. And there was no upgrading done for 50 years before this programme started. Council houses are upgraded more regularly.

That work would at some point be required is not in doubt, nor is the fact that it will be paid for by the taxpayer. What IS in question is the timing, as stated earlier in the thread by a former insider, the place is 'hardly falling down' - having had money spent on it very recently.

At a time when public services are being cut left, right and centre, with many more to come, yet when it comes to the PM's residence the the money is found, no problem.

Cameron could have used this to demonstrate that everybody has to make sacrifices for the bankers folly, but when it comes to him, he doesn't walk the walk!

Have you considered that the money spent earlier may have been spent on different aspects of the maintenance program, and he current spend may have been as essential? Anyway didn't the PM's pay cut demonstrate that he's happy to make sacrifices for Brown's folly?

Could you send me a copy of the schedule of dilapidations for No 10 that you're referring to?

lets not ignore the real reason for this thread. wednesday1's virulent hatred for anything to do with this government. he cant accept one ounce of positivity that is connected to the conservative party

Well said. Nothing more than sour grapes from an armchair expert who knows absolutely nothing, other than how to quote a biased newspaper headline. Well here's a headline for you - Newspapers distort the facts to sell papers.

Time and again he's been proven wrong by facts or people who work in areas connected to his threads, which are usually ignored or replied to with jokes.
