American contribution to the world

Recommended Posts

By definition you have now just turned it into English bashing thread. I'm not sure poker defines what the US is about on an intellectual basis.

As for Riche...I guess you should just ignore.

It's funny that a thread, bound and determined to totally destroy the United States and ll it's minions, suddenly is accused of becoming an English bashing thread. That's usually the point that the mods step in and shut it down.:hihi::hihi::hihi:

I don't know that one! I still love the Happy Days even if the Fonz went on to be captain hook in panto.

So we have another thing those damned yankees have given us; great films and TV.

And British TV has provided some of the best humour there is.

The Office

Keeping up Appearances

Allo ! Allo !

Waiting for God

Last of the summer wine

Are you being served?

There was another series about these three Irish priests living on a small island off the coast which was absolutely hilarious. Cant remember the name of it though.

Father Ted.

You see, if Osama would only have watched our comedy we might have been chums.

That's it ! Father Ted. I heard that he'd passed away. A great pity as it was one of the best.

As for Osama I think he preferred porn :hihi: I wonder if there was an Arab version of Debbie does Dallas?

Maybe Debbie does Dubai :hihi:

Maybe he was in that film and that was his problem, he was worried the wests influence would get over there and his wifelets would see him playing Dennis the plumber in "Debbie does Dubai"

Funnily enough I actually prefer the American version! Although that's probably because its been on longer so the characters have been more developed.

In general though, yeah comedy is one of Britains best modern cultural exports.

Funnily enough, I was going to post the same. I think Jim and Pam hold my empathy much more than Tim and Dawn, and Dwight is much funnier and strange than Gareth. But then the same goes for all the characters. Although I'm only up to Season 5.

America is getting much better at comedy, and I particularly like the satirical stuff like The Daily Show. Damn you Channel 4 for dropping that one.

Again this just highlights the fact that America cannot be judged as one single entity. For some it's Fox News and Sarah Palin, hatred of gays, government, and foreigners. For others it's The Daily Show, and laughing at Fox News etc.

Was Sanford and Son ever shown on British TV? About a father and son in the junk business. It starred Red Foxx as the father and Demond Wilson as the son.

It was one of the top comedies here for years and happily still shown on reruns

You 'avin a laff?

You do know that was based on Steptoe & Son don't you? You've not been over there that long have you?

There's no way Sanford & Son could be shown here without rioting in the streets.

You're right come to think of it. Sanford was copied off Steptoe. I remember watching the very first episodes of Steptoe back around 1964/65. I left for Canada in 1965 so time has played a few tricks on the memory.

Why would Sanford cause a riot? There was nothing racist about it and it was funnier than hell
