Should poor people be allowed to grow their own food?

Recommended Posts

People who own land or have access to land aren't poor. They are rich beyond their wildest dreams and too dumb to know it. They should be taxed so that they give up their land to people prepared to use it!

so should anyone 3rd generation unemployed in a sink estate, with an overgrown garden used to collect old cars be taxed or made to give up their garden?

They should be taxed on the land, no more or less than anybody else. If they want to pay a premium to waste land so be it. If there is demand for land for food, prices of land would rise, their tax would rise eventually they would have to give it up, unless they were very wealthy and happy to waste their money on such a pointless activity!

As luck would have it a beacon of happiness already did this very "sieze the land and give it to the poor to grow their own food" thing.

Not going particularly well in Zimbabwe though is it as the poor are either starving or trying not to get lynched in South Africa having fled the country.

take a drive through any of the poorer areas of sheffield and see how many have overgrown little gardens, broken cars/furniture dumped.

there's plenty of spare land to grow on. the reason "some" of the poor dont grown their own veggies is that they are do damn lazy.

And, taking it a step further, in many (I woud suggest most) cases it's also the reason they are poor.

You don't go seizing it from productive farmers. You seize idle land. Or transfer ownership from idle landowners to farmers. It really is very simple.

And you don't outright seize it, you levy a tax upon all land, to make sure all land is used efficiently, and that everyone can occupy a little and have access to land for productive means!

Peak district and other national parks can be taxed at a rate so high that it is left to nature, with ownership unobtainable for men.

The problems of Zimbabwe result from productive White-owned farms being seized by novice Black farmers and were coupled with a trade embargo restricting the shipment of fertiliser.
