Wasn't that one of the Lib dem’s manifesto promises?

Over 160,000 asylum seekers have been given leave to remain in the UK at "considerable cost" to the public purse, MPs have said.

The home affairs committee condemns the UK Border Agency (UKBA) as "still not fit for purpose" in its latest report, which notes that just nine per cent of asylum seekers have had their claims rejected and then removed.

A backlog of around 450,000 cases, some of which date back nearly 20 years, has not yet been addressed and it is now feared it could be increasing further.

Bigotry, racism and ignorance is rife in this subject. There is no such amnesty.

It's BS, just media hype trying to influence public opinion of for whatever reason. It's true that the UKBA are understaffed and underfunded and that the 30% reduction hitting the workforce is not going to help matters.

To prove a point, these people are not given leave to remain they are given discretionary leave which is non-settlement immigration category, although they may gain settlement after 10 years of legal stay or 14 years of illegal stay but most will have been repatriated before then.

Which is precisely what most of them do of course. A few of them have connections to the UK and naturally they head for a place where they hope to be made welcome by family or friends just like you or I would. Then there are those who want to work but can't get a visa for whatever reason. Finally there are the very small number who are trying it on.

When you have a moment have a look at which nations take in the most refugees and asylum seekers - it certainly ain't the UK because we have so few that we don't even appear on the list

Taking more than our 'fair share'? Nope, we're not doing that either.

Ghettos? We don't even begin to understand what that is.

Perhaps we just need to try to get a better understanding of what's going on in the world before we make out that we're badly done to.

Because Australia won't let them in? Bring back £10 passages and watch everyone leave then.
