loopy556
Hi Guys Just wanted your opinion on areas in rotherham as I am thinking of leaving sunny Sheffield and moving there. Any areas you would/wouldn't live ??? Thanks
the_rudeboy
I moved to Rotherham in 2003, because I could get far more for my money. Can't ever see me moving back to Sheffield now. The southern bit is quite nice (Whiston, Brecks, Wickersley etc)

Michael_N
We also made the move across to Rotherham two years ago (having both been born and raised in Sheffield) and have never looked back. Get more for our money over here, less traffic problems and we're still quite close and connected to Sheffield anyway - so its essentially like the same city, just cheaper to live within the Rotherham Council area. Would agree with the above posts made so far, though it depends on what you are after? Every area has its good and bad bits, but those that don't and would avoid if I were you (from my own observations and what others have said, that have lived in these locations) are Eastwood, East Dene and Canklow. Just about everywhere else is ok. Plus are you wanting to be close to Sheffield (Aston, Anston, Swallownest, Kimberworth, Brinsworth, Treeton, Catcliffe and Thorpe Hesley all ideal). Same goes for the main centre of Rotherham - been just 6 miles away from the centre of Sheffield and easily connected via road and the public transport network. All depends on what you are after. Have a drive around into some areas and a look on Google Maps, Streeview. Also once you find an ideal area, have a drive about on a Friday/Saturday night to see if there are gangs of kids up to no good etc. Happy hunting! Michael_N
And to break things down even further: North Rotherham - Mainly former pit communities, and rural villages. Also includes Rawmarsh, the largest village in the UK. East Rotherham - Mainly run-down council estates. Some ok areas though. South Rotherham - Mainly small villages, by far the nicest part of Rotherham on the whole. West Rotherham - Mainly industrial estates, though some ok areas to the North-West of Rotherham (Kimberworth & Thorpe Hesley). Just a quick guide.
