If You Could Go Back In Time In Sheffield......

Recommended Posts

Depends which castle CR was thinking of - the castle built by de Lovetot was destroyed in the 13th. century along with the parish church.

It was the later stone castle that was destroyed by the ancestors of Sheffield City Council ;)

Hopefully when the council demolish the markets the archaeologists will have an opportunity to do a thorough investigation on the site.

Stone Castle was destroyed by the ancestors of Sheffield city council then?

As apposed to the rest of the city center being distroyed by the present city council !

Id like to go right back to just before the first settlers arrived there, and just sit in the tranquil sunshine by the river Don and ponder what was going to happen over the next couple thousand years or so.

You'd get yer bum bit by a wolf.

I didn't mean ancestors in a literal sense :)

The council have never had much enthusiasm for preserving historic buildings, either in the center or in the suburbs. Perhaps if the roundheads had not had the castle dismantled the town center might have developed differenlty.
