Feminist protesters vs new Playboy club

Recommended Posts

:hihi::hihi::hihi: i think i will grab another bowl of popcorn and enjoy some more feminists supporters trying and failing!;) on this thread

Did I say something indicating I'm a 'feminist supporter'? Reading and comprehending written English obviously isn't your strong point.

But if it's popcorn you want, just look in the gap between your ears, it's full of the stuff! :hihi:

Playboy, I'm sure, has far more women working there than men. It's ironic that feminists have battled, rightly, for a long time for women to be more represented in the workplace

I don't think women battled to be more represented in an industry selling sex. I'd imagine there are more women working for minimum wage cleaning. Is that another victory for feminist thought?

Yes, after getting out of the wrong side of my hand made, fair trade mongolian yak hair quilt, I tripped on my patchwork rainnbow jumper and fell face first in a lentil burger, so now I'm feeling a bit sensitive, but I'll probably be alright after I have attended my 'exploring men's feeling through the medium of tree hugging' workshop tommorrow. etc. etc. etc.

The Playboy brand is punishing and dehumanising to women because it dresses girls up as bunnies, as animals.

Can anyone think of a male sexuality that has that treatment? When men strip they do so in the guise of someone powerful; the outfits of rank and uniform. If someone can name me one male sex worker that spends his days with a mock animal's tail or ears on his body then I will change my opinion about Playboy completely.

It is the women who willingly dress up as bunnies for money.

No one makes them it is their choice.

Without them there would be no Playboy clubs.

If the feminist movement objects it should direct its displeasure at them.

It would be foolish to blame one particular part of the functioning side of the business. You could argue that the Playboy Clubs wouldn't open without running water, so the feminist movement should direct its displeasure at plumbers.

The root cause of this club is Hugh Hefner and his business model, no more and no less. It isn't the men who go in, it isn't the girls who work there, and it isn't the cleaners who hoover up in the morning. It is this man's business and it makes sense to protest against him.

But the only reason for their displeasure is that they don't like how the women are choosing to be employed.

So they should direct their displeasure at their own hypocrisy and exploded in a gory way.

It makes no sense to protest against it on feminist grounds though.

It is what the women do that causes offence. No one makes them.

Stop them doing it and achieve the feminists aims.

There appears to be a reluctance to criticise the women for willingly creating the situation which causes the objection.

I can't see that premise as being true. I posted their reasons earlier, and here is one I agree with.

"We are going to give Mr Hefner the welcome he deserves," she said. "For two decades the Playboy empire has pornified our society. It makes everything from hardcore porn films to children's duvet covers, all carrying the Playboy brand, and has encouraged male clientele to treat women as sexual objects for Playboy's vast financial gain."

It makes sense to me. Nobody has even mentioned in this thread the Bailey Report, another reason the protestors went out.
