Feminist protesters vs new Playboy club

Recommended Posts

It is what the women do that causes offence. No one makes them.

Stop them doing it and achieve the feminists aims.

The feminist's aims are not to stop women stripping, dancing, working in nightclubs.

End of the line for me. Friday night is not the night to repeat the same points endlessly. :)

The Playboy brand is punishing and dehumanising to women because it dresses girls up as bunnies, as animals.

Can anyone think of a male sexuality that has that treatment? When men strip they do so in the guise of someone powerful; the outfits of rank and uniform. If someone can name me one male sex worker that spends his days with a mock animal's tail or ears on his body then I will change my opinion about Playboy completely.

my goodness the depth of your thinking is amazi... no worrying

Yes, after getting out of the wrong side of my hand made, fair trade mongolian yak hair quilt, I tripped on my patchwork rainnbow jumper and fell face first in a lentil burger, so now I'm feeling a bit sensitive, but I'll probably be alright after I have attended my 'exploring men's feeling through the medium of tree hugging' workshop tommorrow. etc. etc. etc.

touche:hihi:

There are women who are truly proving they are equal to men and superior in some cases.

These are the ones serving in the forces and in many cases living in harsh dangerous conditions the same as the men in battle zones.

Several have won gallantry awards for their bravery.

They are not looking for a cause to hang onto but are proving what the Playboy protestors are playing at.

Clearly, no one has actually understand my objections (note, the word objections, never have I called for a ban or censorship). Ha, me an extremist, that gave me a real laugh, some people obviously do not have a clue about the various different schools of feminism, the rads wouldn't have me:roll:.

For every study which claims that there is no correlation between the proliferation of sex clubs and porn and the perception of women as sex objects, you will find at least two which have concluded the reverse. Kat Banyard's recent book The Equality Illusion, inter alia, lists plenty, including one case of continued sexual harassmant of women going about their everyday business in one particular spot from men leaving a lap dancing bar, when the club opened. There are plenty of other similar studies which have the same findings.

Plek - Julie Bindel has the been on the receiving end of some utterly vile (and frankly disturbing as she has actually received death threats) vitriol from the transgendered community who has indulged in 'hate filled rants' about her because of her stance on gender reassignment surgery. Whilst I am not in total agreement with her, I have some sympathy with the rad fem view on this. Regardles of her stance on this issue or others (many of which I happen to disagree with) her views on religion and misogyny are spot on and I make no apology for agreeing with and supporting her on this issue.

The Egypt comparison is a good one as it highlights how cultures which are sexually oppressive and repressive and those where female over-sexualisation in the mainstream are unhealthy and both give rise to sexual harassment, yet both are at opposite extremes of the spectrum. It may be anecdotal, but having lived in the France where women are objectified sexually even more so than here, woman (in my personal experience) are harassed even more so than here. There may be other cultural factors here, however, this is an observation.

Oh and talking of observations, my argument is a theory not a personal opinion or assertion. Nice try at belittling and undermining it guys.

Oh and Bettyboop or whatever your name is:

Bloody feminists, they give us women a bad name.

Chances are, they've all got faces like a badger's backside (and a figure to match!) so are just envious of the girls who don't look like them.

If the girls are happy to be all scantily clad for the paying men, and the men are happy to pay then what's the problem?

Less time moaning, more time waxing required.

No, you give women a bad name. No doubt you're reaping the rewards of years of campaigning and feminist action, you should be thankful and grateful that a bunch of boot-faced harridans were prepared to put their necks on the line so that women like you could have more choices in life.

Lastly, this myth that women earn shed loads of money in the sex industry is a myth. It's seedy and dangerous, only those working at the high end will earn decent money. Most are self-employed and have as huge cut taken from them by the club and will make most of their money in tips, which means long long hours to make it lucrative, really excelling at their craft and/or being prepared to go 'that extra mile'.

If I've missed out any points that were aimed at me, it's not intentional, but hey, I have a life and haven't time to go through them one by one.

No, it's spot on and in a different league to you. Did you just feel a 'whoosh' sensation over the top of your head?
