Phanerothyme
The thing these women seem to fail to realise, is that many, many women genuinely don't care about these clubs and find the actions of these women quite abhorrent and an insult to everything that the feminist movement has achieved since the early 60s). I'm glad the slient majority of "pro titty-bar" women have you as their representative - presumably they just let you get on with the debate while they do the ironing. Frank Sidney
Could you suggest any of these better/worse places you have in mind? Can you articulate why you think this protest is insulting and abhorrent to the feminist movement? Because men enjoy it...
Chris_Sleeps
I don't care whether people protest or not. What I do care about is the blatant hypocrisy on display (if these women wish to protest, then there are far better/worse places to protest, yet they go for the easiest/low risk establishments). What is a better place to protest against Playboy than outside the Playboy Club? The protest wasn't about sex work or lap dancing. It was about Playboy. *bangs head on brick wall*
sccsux
What is a better place to protest against Playboy than outside the Playboy Club I thought they weren't protesting against the club:confused:. At least, that's what keeps being said. If these women are that incensed by the "sexual objectification" of women (which is what has been claimed repeatedly), then they should be protesting outside the various "sex shops" around the country, rather than the relatively benign playboy club. Chris_Sleeps
I thought they weren't protesting against the club:confused:. At least, that's what keeps being said. They weren't, as far as I read. Playboy doesn't have an embassy or an headquarters in London though, so the club was a good place to protest. guardian.co.uk - Playboy Protests One woman plans to bring her daughter dressed in a rabbit costume – though not as a "bunny" – to protest against the Playboy empire's marketing of its products to children [...] The Downing Street-commissioned Bailey review is expected to recommend restrictions on products such as padded bras and high heels for girls as young as 10 [...] Playboy targets its brand towards children through pencil cases and bed covers, essentially grooming young girls into porn culture, argued Banyard. "Playboy encourages many of the problems that we hope the Bailey review will address," she said.
sccsux
I'm glad the slient majority of "pro titty-bar" women have you as their representative I'm not for or against these clubs. I just think there are better things for them to channel their energies into, rather than these kind of places. presumably they just let you get on with the debate while they do the ironing. Yeah, right. The missus doesn't do the ironing thing (for any reason). The GF is sat beside me as I type. I am, however, in favour of equality. These protesters are nothing to do with equality, they are dictators in waiting. Could you suggest any of these better/worse places you have in mind? I already have done (on more than one occasion). Can you articulate why you think this protest is insulting and abhorrent to the feminist movement? Nope. Because I'm not a woman. My GF thinks that they are hypocrites (she also sees nothing wrong with these clubs). Protesting against something they protested for. Hypocrisy is always insulting to any movement. Halibut
I thought they weren't protesting against the club:confused:. At least, that's what keeps being said. They're protesting about what the Playboy empire represents - i.e. that women are there for the titillation and amusement of men. If these women are that incensed by the "sexual objectification" of wome, then they should be protesting outside the various "sex shops" around the country, rather than the relatively benign playboy club. There have been many protests outside sex shops as a quick look on the internet will tell you. It's not an either/or thing is it?

It was about Playboy. *bangs head on brick wall* That doesn't make much sense. Its like animal rights activists protesting outside a butchers claiming that the killing of animals is not the problem, its the places that sell the meat that is... (no pun intended) Nobody would deny anyone the right to protest and to comment about the protesters looks lessens the argument. But if people are going to protest they can't just accept that everyone is going to support their daft ideologies and made up victim mentality..
