Cyclone
No worries, the number country wide was higher than I expected. I'd still like to see a regional breakdown, but I doubt it's available, so no one can 'win' the discussion.
crookesey
And they all lived in this council house and were scared of buying it? (for what, 50k after the discount is applied?) Don't tell me mate, I explained it many times. I originate from council house dwelling and know the fear that buying property does to folk. My grandparents were offered a semi on Gleadless Common circa 1947, for something like £350, needless to say they didn't buy it.
BR ToXsicK
Should Council house tenants have to leave their houses if they earn more than £100,000 p.a. in order that poorer people can be accommodated? Damn straight they should!
crookesey
Damn straight they should! Why not charge according to affordability? After all a good percentage pay nothing at all, so why not rake something back from those who can afford it?

INTERVIEWER
The household income of council property tenants should be reviewed annually. Those with an income above £100,000 per year should be forcibly evicted. All applicants for social housing should have to prove that they have been UK residents for the previous 15 years, in order to be eligible. Missdan
Yes. Next Question. It's a yes from me too. We have never earned that money in our lives or are never likely too, but we managed to buy our own house.
Mister M
Unfortunately as demand for social housing remains high (especially if interest rates rise), I suspect that those earning less that the threshold will go below 100k and continue to ratchet downwards. strikerPaul
Should Council house tenants have to leave their houses if they earn more than £100,000 p.a. in order that poorer people can be accommodated? Who would rent a council house if they were legitimately earning that much?
