Hola friends

Hope your well. Below we have news of some fantastic live music forthcoming this month and details of future events at La Mama.

Continuing our popular Musiquita en Vivo! themed Wednesday evenings, live music acts confirmed through June are as follows:

June 8th - The Broken Strings - ever popular at La Mama don’t miss the opportunity to see these Sheffield brothers perform their take on Flamenco, a sound perfected through recent travels and experiences in Latin America.

June 15th - Son Para Todos - creatively fusing Latin rhythms with Colombian Salsa, Spanish Flamenco and Cuban Son this popular Sheffield band are a melting pot of styles and energy.

June 22nd - Paul Newman - very talented local singer/guitarist performing popular Latin & Jazz classics from an impressive repertoire overflowing with Bossa Nova, Cuban Son and songs from the last century.

June 29th - Mike Tinker - join us this evening at La Mama for a first! Michael Tinker and friends liven up the Blues/Americana/Jazz sound with improvised instruments - during their gigs there is always a musical surprise to be had!

Last months Kizomba party proved to be a great success. Thank you to all that came down and danced the night away. Photo's from the evening can be found on our Facebook page. Remember Kizomba classes are every Saturday at La Mama between 3.30pm and 6.30pm. Beginners class first and intermediate second with tutor Antonio Filipe. Classes start at £5 per person.

We are pleased to announce that La Mama will be participating in this years Sheffield Food Festival. The festival takes place between July 4th and 10th and is designed to showcase and encourage all that is culinary in Sheffield. Attractions include markets, picnics, food and drink tasters, a city centre farm and garden, offers and special menus in bars and restaurants, chef demos and much, much more. La Mama's contribution to the good cause are the two following events - we hope you can make it:

'El Gusto de La Mama' - Taste Something New...Saturday 9th July 2011 – 11am to 2.30pm

Visit La Mama on this Saturday and try a splendid and delicious selection of our authentic, speciality Latin Tapas. Individual platters are available for just £3, which include a choice of popular dishes such as Croqueta Chilena, Papas con Mojo, Sopaipillas al Pebre, Berenjenas al Horno and Pulpo. So should you wish to try marinated Octopus (Pulpo) or a delightful Chilean pastry (Sopaipillas) served with a traditional South American relish (Pebre), we would love to welcome you to La Mama.

'Sopaipillas Baking' - Children's Cooking Class...Saturday 9th July 2011 – 12pm to 1.30pm

All children – and parents – are welcome to La Mama to learn how to cook your own Sopaipillas. Sopaipillas are a traditional, lightly fried pumpkin bread that are served throughout Chile. Eaten as a snack or part of a meal, Sopaipillas are a trusty part of the average Chilean's diet. Children will be taught how to create the traditional bread and then allowed to shape their Sopaipillas before being cooked. A fun time for the children.

Finally we are pleased to share with you that we have the addition of new dishes to our existing Tapas menu, some of which include Pulpo (Octopus), Empanadas de Atún (tuna empanadas), and sizzling Chile Prawns. We also have a new specials board including the old favourite Paella Valenciana - perfect to share over a romantic meal for two.

Hope to see you soon.

Last month we were very pleased to welcome Nicolas Zannettos from In Depth Sheffield, the current affairs website dedicated to Sheffield city. Nicolas enjoyed a Tapas dinner and entertainment from The Broken Strings.

You can read Nicolas's review HERE.

Thank you Nicolas and In Depth Sheffield!
