We are spending £6million a week bombing Libya, so why the cutbacks?

Recommended Posts

So now were bombing a major city filled with civilians, Tripoli, almost daily. And we see attempts to target Gaddafi personally which is completely outside of the UN mandate.

Consider if the same thing happened in the UK and The North rose up in rebellion. You would expect the government to fight back against the rebels wouldn't you?

Do you understand the difference between 'carpet bombing' that you are infering and 'precision bombing' which is what is actualy happening?

Precision bombing is capable of putting a precision guided bomb through the window of a target building.

Think before you post misinformation.

And what about the shock waves ?

Various western countries were tossing cash at Mubarak for years but dropped him like a pox ridden prostitute the moment it looked like the rebel demos were winning. The same may well happen in Saudi so the west is getting ready for that shift and Libya is the perfect place to show how the west loves Arabs.

Any other questions?

Are there any Arab leaders that are not sponsored by the West that love their people, aren’t corrupt and give their citizens the freedoms that we enjoy? Or are they all the same regardless of whether they have Western support.

I take it you couldn't think of any.

...how can we afford £6million per week to bomb Libya? Where has the money come from? Why is this more important than public services?

Some actually say that it is close to £38 MILLION (*edit a WEEK), as it's expected to cost £1 BILLION by September - the UKs cost!!!

Intervention?? IN what?

Are people really this stupid?

We are there for one reason and one reason only and that is OIL!

It wont be long before were recouping the small amounts spent on murdering innocent people and chasing down their leader and putting in one of our own.

The real question is when will this greed end? It certainly wont end with Lybia theres far too much greed complacancy for that.

If it’s about oil wouldn't it have made more sense to help Gaddafi crush the rebellion because he was happy to sell us oil?

I don't understand why people think that we are fighting Libya for the oil. We already had very good access to the oil and very good relations with the Gaddafi government. It doesn't make sense to say it's about the oil.

I wouldn't expect them to kill unarmed civilians or to authorise mass rape as a means of suppressing the rebellion through fear...

(In fact, if the majority of people were part of a popular uprising I'd hope that the government would recognise the legitimacy of their demands for self determination, but that might be a bit optimistic).

You only hear about the Gaddafi atrocities and not about those committed by the rebels. Many of these are typical hyped up stuff that is typical of war and demonising your enemy like the mass rape claim that has been swallowed up and regurgitated unquestioningly by our media.

What actual evidence is there for mass rape?

I understand that the phrase 'precision bombing' is something of a misnomer.

Read this about just how imprecise these 'smart bombs' were in the Iraq war -

Colonel Gaddafi ordered mass rapes and gave sex drugs to troops to encourage them to attack women, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has claimed.

The international criminal court says they have evidence and there are apparently plenty of women coming forward with the claims.

Obviously if you didn’t witness it you can never be 100% sure it took place but I would tend to believe it.
