cardoor
Hello, I have a Ford Modeo LX 2001 where the bonnet locks and opens using the normal ignition key. It's been off the road for a while but started straight away, took it for an MOT today and they couldn't get the bonnet open. It's seized shut or something. So MOT got a refusal notice and I've been at it all day trying to get the thing open. I've made it worse and now probably needs a new locking mechanism. The garage said they'd have to smash it off and then rebuild it and it'd be kinda a big job. A locksmith place said it's the key, which it might of been but it's much worse than that now. Main priority is to get the bonnet open so an MOT can be done. I don't mind a bit of rough handling to get it done but obviously want to create as little damage as possible and if it can be bodged just to pass the MOT then we're sorted. HELP! ARRGGGGHHHHH I think you mean HAVE not OF.... Anyway, give this a try... Spray plenty of wd40 in the lock barrel and on as much of the bonnet catch as you can. Leave overnight and then try again. cardoor
If the bonnet can be opened just for the MOT and then bodged with gaffer tape or something afterwards to close it, would it still pass?

James.
I would suggest either phoning the Master Locksmith Association, or alternatively getting in contact with Ford directly, It may cost you but you are getting they key cut direct from the manufacturer that way. paddy8
I had the same problem on my Focus . The keys and lock barrel wear out ( same key as the ignition but the lock is not as good . I took it to Carters at Chapeltown . They had to break the plastic radiator grill off , i found another at a scrap place .Carters charged me about £
cardoor
It's difficult to explain the problem without pictures, and how do you post pictures on this forum? Does anyone know of a reasonably priced auto locksmith who would come out to the car? (I practically live in the centre of Sheffield)
carltoncdx
Try pressing down on the bonnet while you turn the key. Doing this takes some of the tension off the lock release and may just help it let go. GT85 is much better than Wd40 as a siezed componant releaser.
