Why is the population of Australia so low.

Aren't all stories embellished. I think like reading newspapers you don't believe every last word but for those of us not having the priviledge of living there it's a way of understanding the complexed history of a group of people that have been widely misunderstood and mistreated

Well that seems reasonable denlin, since native Australians were the unwitting hosts for our low lives in Victorian times ;)

Yes but we didn't send as many over there as they keep sending back, fair enough they will have had families in the intervening years but I think now they're sending back ones that have nothing to do with the ones we sent to the penal colonies:hihi::hihi::hihi:

I know your posts are playful denlin, but some will not want to appreciate that, or want to ;)

Just for clarity Australia does accept asylum seekers and has a long history of doing so, it's also unlikely that failed asylum seekers to Australia end up in the British Isles :)

The latest figures I can find for Australia show there were 13500 successful asylum applications in 2003/04

http://www.hreoc.gov.au/racial_discrimination/face_facts_05/refugee.html#q3

Figures for 2003 for the UK, show that 11415 applications were successful, 83% of applications were refused.

I'm afraid this belief that Australia doesn't accept asylum seekers or have a comprehensive human rights policy is a bit of a myth.
