crookesey
The left wing idiot should have gone into politics instead of the church, he has now devalued his future opinions to that of a fool.
Iuchi_Zien
But that's not what I'm saying. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, although some would argue against that, but I'm saying is is why should he get his ugly mug in the media instead of the man in the street? What makes his opinions better than anyone elses'? Respected man? I don't respect him. I don't know where this so-called respected image has come from, since lately his views just seem to be a bit strange or just downright obscure. Sorry but your respect is irrelevent, the fact is that a million plus church goers respect him, that makes what he says newsworthy. Hence the Conservatives attempt to belittle, condemn him for speaking out. Devout Christians will listen to what he says and those are the people Mr Cammeron has to keep on side. Based on what? Your 'clearly' unbiased opinion? or what you've been told to think.

Iuchi_Zien
No, on the premise that whilst in power he should be impartial to political matters, smart arse. Why? Is it in his job description? Because I don't remember ever hearing that Archbishops are not entitled to have an opinion, or is it that he is saying things you don't like? and yes compared to you I am smart and I do have an arse you are quite welcome to kiss
Mr Prime
He may be respected by millions as a leader of their faith but that does not give him credibility to comment on subjects other than his speciality or even the right to shoe-horn his views into the media. It's a bit late for that as his comments are already there, already agreed with by a substantial portion of the population whatever anyone on here thinks. I am an atheist so not into him in a big way. I do believe when massive changes to the nations culture are about to take place it's unsurprising that the usually apolitical will step in. In your opinion and lets face it most people are interested in his opinion than average Joe's.

But then again, you appear to have much to be modest about.

He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. How many bishops and clerics were chastised for not speaking up against the persecutions commited by the, at the time, legally elected National Socialist Party in Germany. Yet here we are saying how dare they speak up against a legally elected party, how dare they involve themselves in Politics, even if they don't agree with them. Even if they BELIEVE those decisions are wrong!

People forget that bishops etc have spoken out before on the Falklands War and the miners strike so it's not exactly a shocker, again they speak up when the nation is at a crossroads as opposed to commenting on bins and drains policies.
