Map of homelessness in the UK

Here is a map of homelessness, look at Sheffield, as you can see, we have lots compared to others.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2011/jun/09/homelessness-england-data

In fact, only 8 of the 433 local authorities have higher homelessness rates per 1000 population than Sheffield.

Give it a year or two and we can get to the top of the table and have the highest amount of homelessness in the UK!

Keep it up Sheffield City Council, your policies have been adversely affecting the lives of this cities inhabitants for decades now and leave us with one of the worst housing situations in the entire country. Soon you will have achieved your aim!

Sheffielders, sorry to break the bad news. Of course, nobody could have predicted we would have such a high rate of homelessness. Who would have thought demolishing and privatising 1000s upon 1000s of units of housing would have an adverse affect upon the residents of this city

Another day another housing rant. I'm starting to admire your persistence.

Did you see the map?

Did you see the tables?

What do you think about Sheffield having a higher rate of homelessness per 1000 population, than 425 of the 433 LAs in the UK?

Did you see where the Guardian got its figures from?

The latest National Statistics on Statutory Homelessness for January to March 2011, England, were released on 9 June 2011, under arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

See the tables at the bottom.

I think likely because SCC are more concientious in recording/tackling homelessness. Many LA's like to think it doesn't exist and ignore their statutory duties.

SCC have had nothing to do with "privatising" housing. That was central government policy - either right to buy or ALMO's. ALMO's / Housing Associations etc are hardly "private" landlords.

I'm curious, who made you all arbitors of freedom? It's not as if he/she isn't clear about the subject in the title. You all arrived here knowing what to expect didn't you? If not I would have thought homelessness - lack of homes would have given it away. If you aren't interested then don't read the thread. I don't remember reading anywhere that it is an obligation to read every thread? Personally I think it's a brilliant example of 'Care in the community', which should more accurately be called 'What care in the community?'
