Do you fancy getting down to an old fashioned talent contest?

The monday open mic at Dempseys (moorfoot) has a new format

the audience votes! voting tickets cost 50p, all ticket money goes to the performer voted for.

the performer with the most votes performs an encore and wins a prize, and a chance to perform at sheffield pride

7pm onwards, all acts welcome

free entry as usual until 9pm when usual rules apply.

£3 all you can eat buffet

It is a good idea except........

What happens is the people entering bring a boatload of friends/family with them so the person that wins is the person who brings the most supporters!

That happens anyway, dizzybird77, in all competitions I've seen. At least, there is a chance that the best will win over a few hearts and minds and pockets -rather than come away with absolutely nothing.

It could happen like that - - but it didnt, the person who won on monday received votes from all around the room.

she also won a bottle of bubbly,

a box of chocolates,

a place in the final (11th of july) - with a chance to perform at Sheffield Pride (18th of july)

and all the 50p's from her votes

she said she has only got up and performed a couple of times before, and everybody thought she was absolutely brilliant. - like a more modern pam ayres

all of the runners up received their vote money
