sues_budgie
According to the Mail, benefits will not be cut back to a maximum of £26,000 a year (£35,000 is the gross figure) I can see workers on the minimum wage, working there balls off, struggling to make ends meet (which you would if you earned £12,000 a year for a full time week) wondering why they bother going to work. HeadingNorth
Said workers would be receiving £14,000 of benefits, if their circumstances were the same as someone not working and receiving £26,000.
ANGELFIRE1
£26,000 grand a year as a maximum, and that's not enough. Jaysus the benefit system has gone insane. No wonder the Country is bloody bankrupt. Regards Angel.
Rich
Yes but do you know that under Dave Cameron's current reform plans claiming benefits will be like getting blood out a stone.
Obelix
Which can only be a good thing then if that's the level we are paying out. No wonder the welfare budget is balooning if that's the level we shell out
Leah-Lacie
How many people actually get this £26,000 though? If thats the absolute maximum limit, I doubt very many people have circumstances that actually lead to them getting that much

I'm not even sure what child benefit is nowadays.
Leah-Lacie
Its about £20 per week for first child, and £12 for each child after that I think
HeadingNorth
Three children would be £2,200 a year then. I suspect it's only people living in London who get anywhere near those sort of amounts. The alternative to paying them, would be to force people on benefits to move out of London to somewhere with lower rental costs...
Leah-Lacie
Thats right, they can claim up to about £400 per week in housing benefits can't they, unlike here, where its closer to that amount per month.
