andikay
This differs to the equation below. Aaarrghh! It as to be a number between 3 and 4 as most of the files are in these groups, your fist assumption of looking for 3 was close.

Joe-b-1
Ever stared at a simple maths puzzle and kicked yourself repeatedly for not being able to figure it out? Here goes.... What is the average file grade? Grade 1 - 1 file Grade 2 - 10 files Grade 3 - 4 files Grade 4 - 13 files. I've tried the obvious thing of adding them all up and dividing by 4, but that gives me 7. I'm looking for an answer somewhere around Grade 3 point something. How the heck do I do this? ((1x1) + (2x10) + (3x4) +(4x13)) / (1 + 10 + 4 +13) = (1 + 20 + 12 + 52) / 28 = 85 / 28 =3.035714286 c =3.04 to 3 significant figures as correctly stated by other posters. Just felt like showing the method .
