RootsBooster
Through the ages there have been many gods and religions invented and worshipped, taken seriously at the time but eventually phased out/forced out by other gods/religions. Nowadays we view the Greek, Norse, Egyptian and Sumerian gods (amongst others) as mythology. The question is, will the current batch of big religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism etc) one day be classed as mythology? EDIT: Why should the older "Mythologies" be any less believable than current religions?
RootsBooster
I suppose what I'm also trying to say is, at which point do beliefs change? At which point does an accepted belief system become unacceptable?

RootsBooster
I'm not sure they ever will. Why shouldn't they? Scientology and the Spiritualist Church (the variety not affiliated with Christianity) are both recent inventions and have as much credibility as any other religion or mythology. Maybe they will be the next big religions, pushing the current big ones into mythology.

I don't know, I just feel that this current crop of religions has a very long way to go before they even come close to being pushed out. With the technology we have now, it is far easier for religious people to share their beliefs with people around the world than it was before. We will probably kill each other in war before they ever become pushed out.

WE ARE IN 3 WARS AGAINST PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER EVER ATTACKED US! WE SUPPORT REGIMES WHICH KILL , TORTURE TO STAY IN POWER! I THINK WE NEED GOD MORE THAN EVER!! Swan_Vesta
As long as grown adults require a Santa figure, whose opinion of their deeds or misdeeds brings either presents or a lack of, we will see a furtherance of these magical sky pixy cults. People lead decent lives without the supposed teachings of an Arab who supposedly took 'dictation' from God, an illiterate American farmer who supposedly took 'dictation' from God and the antics of a magical Jew (whose merry wanderings were recorded significantly after his death) - Throw off your mental shackles and walk your own path free from the archaic ramblings of men who in today's world would be sectioned under the mental health act. There have always been the rich and the poor, wars, unfair policies etc. the god I assume you are speaking of hasn't always been around in people's minds, there was a point he was invented. Before that there were other gods. It has been happening for centuries, throughout the ages, religions coming and going. With regards to your last line, what exactly do we need the god for?
