Taxman to snoop into ebay accounts

Recommended Posts

Seems the government are to probe into online earnings from websites and e sellers, including ebay,to see if your pocketing a few quid more than you mite be declaring, using new methods.

Those who re sell home goods wont be affected, and register minimal accounts, but those earning a decent online living, but failing to declare will be penalised

This is a NEW and MORE sophisticated effort to weed out tax avoidance, using improved surveillance software to track down people trading on marketplace websites,as reported on the bbc 13 of june.

Why not, selling stuff on ebay is just providing another service; a bit like a workman doing jobs on a Saturday and not putting it through the books. I'm not sure how the government will facilitate this though, what with all the Civil Service cuts.

This isn't news, we've been looking at ebay sellers for years.

I don't know anyone who has been penalised - and I know sellers who've made hundreds of thousands on Ebay.

This needs doing and soon, because those people are the ones killing legitimate businesses and paying absolutely nothing in TAX.

Hopefully it will turn up a few benefit cheats too who use Ebay as an extra income!!

This sort of reply makes me laugh, benefit cheats earning a few quid on ebay probably just to survive are a no no yet you vote for people who fiddle that much on a regular basis for no other reason than to swell their considerable bank balance..get off your high horse

100% behind you there. I just can't understand why people on SF are so down on people on benefits but seem to forget that 1. MP's screwed the country by fiddling hundreds of thousands of pounds off the taxpayer, Then got sent to prison for a grand total of 13 weeks. 2. Banks were bailed out with our money yet still continue to charge US for going overdrawn, having a bank account etc etc!!

It's not that at all. But there are LOTs of people who set up on Ebay to make a few extra quid, and every one of those sales in my area means I lose a sale. They don't pay any TAX, I do.

The whole Ebay thing means that I end up paying through the nose while they can afford to sell things at rock bottom prices knowing they won't have to pay a penny in TAX.

For me, it has nothing to do with benefits, although, I imagine there's an absolute bunch of benefit scroungers making a very nice living off Ebay.
