Typical of this government.

One minute they say one thing and the next they do another.

Cut down on drunkenness and rowdy drink related behaviour and then open the licensd premises even longer so that even more people can get drunk and fined.

Talk about mixed messages from the people in power!!

Typical of the licences for the chippys too.

Just like the holiday tax they charge us to go on holiday.

Born free, taxed to death !!!

Just been online to check out the 'chippie license'.

It's the same 2003 act as the one allowing 24 hour drinking.

Anybody serving alcohol or providing live entertainment / food past 11pm has to apply...including restaurants, theatres, pubs, clubs...and yes, chippies and other take aways.

Convenient for them that everybody's been focusing on the 24 hour drinking stuff and not the rest.

It would be really handy if someone with a little time on their hands could put together a list of the new opening hours of drinking establishments in and around the Sheffield area.

The pubs near home in Hillsboro' are opening til midnight at the weekend. Hardly 24 hour drinking but i suppose it would be a little dangerous to offer much longer hours in the heart of S6.

Actually I think the idea is that people will binge drink less as they won't be trying to fit it all into a 3 hour session, and can drink at their leisure.

Plus it's always glossed-over that it is only possible to drink so much before you die, so it's impossible to increase the amount you drink beyond a point...

Listening to most of what's been said about this act by various govt. ministers I got the didtinct impression that the LA Licensing Boards would now be in control of pub opening hours but it seem not.

If magistrates still have the power to overturn Licensing Board decisions and ignore police objections aren't we exactly as we were, - except of course for an additional and expensive layer of bureaucracy :suspect:

Lots of jobs for the boys and the lawyers laughing all the way to the bank :P
