haircut
Does anyone remember the wonderful Jim Monkman, formerly of James barbers on Glossop Road (opp the drama studio)? He cut my hair from being 12 (I had a lot then), until he retired, lost touch with him after he and his wife retired to Oz, but I know he wasn't in the best of health. Would be grateful if anyone has any memories or current info. Thanks Sorry to inform everybody that James passed away on the 13th of April after a short illness

stropalottle
I remember Don Allott, I think - involved in teaching hairdressing at Granville College in the mid eighties. His daughter was on my course too.

Grew up having my hair cut by Jim (and Don, now it seems sadly gone too) and my kids after me. If you're Jim's wife Shirley or daughter, Penny belated condolences to you both. ---------- Post added 18-09-2014 at 19:55 ---------- Sorry to let you know that Don Allott passed away, this week. cgksheff
Sad news, did you know Don cgk? I did. He enjoyed writing ... prose and poetry. Here, you can read a couple of pages of how he started as an apprentice hairdresser, back in '54: http://issuu.com/weasheffieldwea/docs/earning_a_living/
