alternageek
The last few working days Ive received unwanted calls from someone asking to 'speak to the lady of the house' and wanting to complete a survey (of what, I dont know - I wont let them get that far) The person calling has an Indian/Asian accent and wont stray from their script. Once Ive told them to remove me as we are on the TPS and should not be receive these calls, thus they are breaking the law and just recently (10 minutes or so ago) I asked for their details and they hung up. I used 1471 but no number is announced so no number to report. Has this happened to anyone one else and how do I stop these calls coming through? Its not feasible to let the call go to the answering machine, as the land line is only really used for contacting family abroad. When the phone rings, I pick up because it could be family and dont want it to go to VM.

If they call from a call centre abroad I don't think they have to follow any of the rules UK call centres do (eg TPS). They were probably just information gathering so they could sell on call lists to other companies based on your answers.
alternageek
Ugh. So frustrating. Thanks :/ BTW we've never received these kind of calls until VERY recently and have had this number for over 4 years...

ANGELFIRE1
We use TPS, to be frank it's about as much good as a boar with tits or the proverbial chocolate fireguard. We still get loads of pest calls. It's a real nuisance. Regards Angel.

Rich
I'm ex-directory, still had to answer calls last week from some numpty in London trying to contact someone called Alison at supposedly my number!
BettyBooHoo!
Have some fun with them. When they next call and ask for the lady of the house say 'yes, i'll just go get her' then leave them on the other end of the line and crack on with your day as usual. They'll soon get bored. charlie9865
I have had this I moved home twice in last 8 month and I am now having calls for a miss wood from a company when I ring back on 1471 no number. The person/s ringing are asian to and after explaining a million times that person is no longer owner of that number. I got fed up and had my number changed and what else is odd is that my bill is lower so now im wondering if it was a scam. We got the house phone put on as part of a package with virgin media. We don't use the house phone as we have contract mobiles we use, our bills where coming in at 90 pound but since them calls stopped and we changed number our bills 40 pound lower:loopy: My kids do not use phone at ages 3,9,and 12 they know not to with out asking and thankgod we are not at that stage just yet. x:hihi: We even changed mobile numbers, too as my husbands family member was giving us grief. Leah-Lacie
I got a call from Vodafone on Friday, wanting me to consider taking out a contract with them. I told them I had a Tmobile contract with 12 months left, and also Voda signal is rubbish in my area, and I'm not interested. Another call exactly an hour later, then another, and another, and the same all day saturday. I finally had to get angry and swear at them before they got the flippin message.
