chocki Posted June 20, 2011 Share Posted June 20, 2011 Been to Holmfirth today, home of Last of Summer Wine. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Where else could I go for the day (a few hours). Don't want to spend a lot of money (so no shopping centres). Somewhere nice for lunch and a look around. Prefer it to be about 1 hour(ish) away driving by car. Longcol Posted June 20, 2011 Share Posted June 20, 2011 Lincoln is just over an hour away and the old town up by the cathedral and castle is well worth a visit. You should be able to park for free on the street 5 mins walk from cathedral - there are some good cafes up there as well. You could also do Southwell (Minster) and Newark (Castle / views of Trent) as an inexpensive day trip. Quite a lot of civil war history in both places as well.
