Is running a car more hassle than they're worth?

Recommended Posts

With the ever increasing expense, hassle, traffic, fuel costs, anal Parking Services and the frustration of trying to find a mechanic who may be able fix your car at the weekend.

I do not care about what a car looks like, whether it has a radio, sat nav, alloys, spec, its eco rating, its style, size colour........and so on......

All I have ever wanted from a car is something that gets to me to work and back, but yet no matter what you do they just swallow up all your money and bring you nothing but grief.

I now despise cars as much as buses and seriously thinking about only ever working within walking distance of where I live.

I would say he is very wise, I can well afford a few cars but as soon as one is bought it depreciates in value, maybe a classic car wouldn't

How many cars can you well afford Cressida ( good name for a ford car or a salad ):D

I agree with the OP running a car is no longer an affordable luxury, and in a way i understand why people don't insure their cars etc.On they other hand it makes my blood boil when they get caught and are given pathetic penalties hence insurance premiums go up Grrrrrr.

I've just SORN'ed my car for the summer - saving loads of money by getting about mostly by bike or on foot with an occasional bus or taxi thrown in.

That said I do have occasional access to my OH's car, if I didn't I'm not sure I'd want to get rid completely - we're going camping soon - that would be very difficult witout the car as I like to take LOADS of stuff!!

I have two cars, what is the problem. ?, are you poor ?.

What if he is poor?

Cars are not worth having unless you really need one for work and need to travel numerous places in one day.

It'd probably be easier to hire one as an when you need them if you only use it sporadically.

I used to cycle to work - I can't recommend it highly enough to people!

Unfortunately, now I work in the community, home visits/travel between clinics just aren't practical on a bike :D
