Paying to Attend a Wedding Fayre

Recommended Posts

I signed up to a few survey sites a bit ago and I have just completed a survey about a new fayre. One of the questions was how much would you be prepared to pay to visit the fayre. It gave you a description of it and some photos of what it might look like so you could base your decision on that.

My answer was £0 and it got me thinking as to whether I am the only one who has never paid to visit a fayre? I've always felt a bit aggrieved on that one as I know how much they charge stall holders to attend. I am wondering what everyone else thinks. And has any one paid to attend one and did you think it was worth it?

I wouldn't expect to pay to attend one at a hotel that's hosting one to show off its venue to brides attending, where there are actually fairly few stalls, but I assume I paid to get into the one I went to at the NEC in Birmingham which is pretty much a one-stop-shop

I doubt I paid more than £15, which was an absolute bargain as I found my wedding dress maker there, having been unsuccessful so far at finding somebody who could make a leather corset without them thinking I wanted something for a porn film :suspect:

I'd actually gone looking for stationery :D

Well I wouldn't pay to get in, and as for the goody bag, well I'd rather not bother if that is the factor in whether I am paying or not. I don't pay to look around any other shops so why would I pay to visit something like this? Seems a liberty to me if I'm honest.

One of the biggest factors for me was that I would probably see the wedding suppliers at another free to enter fayre the next week. So I always thought what's the point?

I can see where your coming from Strix, if you find a supplier there, especially if you couldn't find them else where, then its worth it. But I still think it's bit cheeky for them to charge brides to enter.

I suppose it depends on how you look at it...

... I never understood how the glossy women's mags could get away with being page after page of advertising and still charge people to read them, but the majority of women are happy to fork out to be bombarded with make up and perfume ads

The wedding show at the NEC has celebrity guests, workshops, make overs, catwalk shows - it's a day out itself

I paid (once) to see the Homebuilding and Renovating exhibition there too, and that's equally a bunch of sales stands, but there are free seminars to attend once you're inside, and it saves one heck of a lot of shopping round, internet trawling and trudging about!

I paid about seven pound to go to one, it was by far aiming at a very affluent audience in comparison to the free ones. I did enjoy it as a day out but it only confirmed to me that the wedding industry sure can get folk spending a grotesque amount of money in the name of love.
