Where is the Isle of Wight?

Recommended Posts

That's the way to get there then - top class travel experience. Hop out of the car at Clarence Pier and it should turn up on the beach to the left. Bit noisy, but you're actually flying!

Yep that's the way to do it, to my knowledge it's the last hovercraft in operation in the UK, definitely an experience if you've not been on one before.

...apparently the Isle of Wight was part of france until it drifted away and is now classed as the british isles...

You've been misled there, hun. Technically the whole of the British Isles was attached to France and no drifting of the Isle of Wight occured. When sea levels were lower Britain was attached to the continent by a landbridge off East Anglia called Doggerland (Dogger Bank on the shipping forecasts). The English Channel was bisected by the Solent River and another further up towards Dover flowing from the continent. The Solent River flowed to the east of the Isle of Wight before reaching just past where Nab Tower is before cascading off the edge of the plateau over a waterfall believed to be higher than Victoria Falls. This prevented migration of Prehistoric humans accross the Channel and why Happisburgh and Pakefield are proving to be of extreme interest in recent years.

It is not part of Hampshire, although it is policied by the Hampshire Constabulary.

My error. When referring to regions the term is "Hampshire and the Isle of Wight", and yes, the island is Policed by Hampshire Constabulary.
