caparo
Having heard the leaders of all three main political parties saying the public sector strikes are wrong, do any of the political parties support the strikes? Ed Milliband was on TV last night saying the strikes were wrong and that the public sector pensions were unsustaineble. That is pretty much the line that the current coalition government is putting forward. So without any major political support why are the strikes taking place. It is clear that even before the recession came along the public sector pensions were unaffordable and out of step with those imposed on the private sector. It is also clear that whoever was in power the same policy would be being pursued. Is this just another instance like in Greece where people are on strike knowing they are fighting for something their country cannot afford? Jeffrey Shaw
I bet that many political parties in the UK's international rivals are delighted with the pointless damage that such strikes do to the UK's Economy as a whole.

caparo
no, individual mp's do though. So are the MPs out of step with their party leaders or are the party leaders out of step with the MPs? Should the MPs be looking for new leaders who represent the aspiration and politics of the party to which they belong?
Stoatwobbler
Far left parties such as the Socialist Workers Party will be supporting strikes. Mainstream parties won't be.
MC Spyda
So are the MPs out of step with their party leaders or are the party leaders out of step with the MPs? Should the MPs be looking for new leaders who represent the aspiration and politics of the party to which they belong? No. It's pretty much impossible for all MPs within a party to always agree on every single issue. Life just doesn't work like that.
