Sheff Laser
I'm going to ask anyway though as I don't know the answer. I have a fan assisted electric oven and the outside of the door gets very hot when it is on. I thought modern ovens shouldn't get hot on the outside glass area? Am I wrong? Joanl
Just had a feel at mine and it's hot too........I can't really see how it wouldn't be though to be honest.

medusa
Mine has always got hot, but then it's almost 20 years old so I don't know what the 'norm' is with new ovens. I only found out that it's normal these days to have an extra window of plastic outside the normal glass surface on washing machines to stop children from putting their hands on the potentially hot glass when I bought a new one of those after 25 years too. WeX
glass is not a very good insulator and neither is air really. so if you want to be able to see in your oven you have to accept that the glass will get hot and presumably leak some energy from the oven. have you ever noticed how commercial kitchens rarely have glass doors on their ovens. Sheff Laser
Ah that's fair enough then, if we're all in the same boat. I thought I'd ask the obvious question
