sues_budgie
On some other threads, people moan and whine about the kids running riot, taking drugs, swearing, sticking two fingers up to old ladys, farting and murdering. It has also been said that a volunteer taking a sports clubs could do wonders fpr the local community, however the old red tape often gets in the way as do mens fears of being labelled a paedo for taking an interest in kids and doing something positive. With CRBs coming in at a cool £65 for the enhanced one, its a pricey game. Also, someone always pipes up "are you CRB checked?" So this could present a potential money spinner for the volunteer. If he was to charge the parent £85, he would make himself an extra £20 just to have a CRB check, if parents are forever asking "are you CRB checked ????", then he takes there £85 and has another check. If he has 10 CRB checks a month, he will pocket an additional £200 a month. People say "thats a rip off - £85 ????" but I say, if you believe that the male volunteer is a paedo, then is £85 that expensive (if you thought he was a paedo, then why not go straight to the police - thats another thread). Should volunteers who offer to work with kids charge people £85 for a CRB check?
Nataliie
Why on earth would they have individual CRBs? They're not £65 either...

Nataliie
No they're not, they're £44 and volunteers don't even pay - they just pay an admin fee. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Startinganewjob/DG_195811 The cost of the criminal record check A check costs: £26 – standard CRB check £44 – enhanced CRB check Some organisations may pay for the check for you, or you may have to pay a processing charge for your application. Check with your employer. If you are a volunteer, it’s free of charge. Check with your recruiting organisation if you qualify.

MC Spyda
The problem with CRBs, is that they are out of date the moment they are issued. Having a clear CRB doesn't mean someone isn't a convicted child offender.

Just to clarify a point. I'm not signing in as firestarter0. This is another, equally rude poster. Respect dude.
andikay
The problem with CRBs, is that they are out of date the moment they are issued. Having a clear CRB doesn't mean someone isn't a convicted child offender. Not being a convicted child sex offender also doesn’t mean that someone hasn’t committed violent or sex offences against a child if they haven’t been caught and a drunken mistake in your teens can prevent you volunteering many years later. Mr Prime
An enhanced one is What they should do is abandon the red tape and just leave it, it will be alright. If dodgy Uncle Ernie turns up well it's his right as an Englishman not to be CRB checked.
sues_budgie
So lets say the football coach charged £3 for his sessions (making some money), he would then have to pay. SO would it be OK for the coach to charge £65 for the enhanced CRB (making £20 profit each time) to help boost his income, or would this be against the law? Many people believe CRBs are expensive, especially if they change jobs frequently as they need a new CRB each time. This is an example of how having CRBs could be turned into a money spinner. If this was the case, many people would be happy to be CRBs many times in a week - perhaps even have a CRB check every hour
