crookesey
I would imagine the first 'proper' night club in Sheffield with a licence to sell alcohol was the Cavendish Room. The likes of Mojo, Esquire, Black Cat, Highway 61, Silhouette etc were glorified coffee bars. The likes of the Locarno were classed as dancehalls not night clubs. 100% The Heart Beat in 1965. sedith
I stand corrected, but I think the Cavendish Room opened before the Heartbeat. I remember controversy over the licence and alcohol being served past the 10.30 closing time. When did the Silver Blades open, the Heartbeat must have been opened at the same time? alex3659
Loads of info on this thread. Can anyone remember the Cavendish Nightclub ? It opened in May 1967. I was only sixteen at the time so it had changed to Baileys Nightclub before I got in the place in the early 70's. By then the Fiesta Nightclub was pulling in the big names. Can anyone recall the artists who appeared at The Cavendish in it's early days ? I think Dusty Springfield was the first artist to appear there. crookesey
Was the Mojo 1964? No membership was required, it didn't have a drinks license, it might have been called a club, but it clearly wasn't.
