grababargin
i started to tend my neighbours lawn a couple of weeks ago as it was like a jungle and she doesnt have a mower as yet. I had to leave a tiny bit of it in the corner as there seemed to be afew bees or fat wasps hang around there. (didnt get to close as i run a mile if one comes near me) today i decided to give my own lawn and hers a trim, and went over the bit what i'd missed last time as it did seem clear, to my horror, maybe a dozen of these things appeared to be coming out of the ground, i blooming ran. who do i call to come and get rid please, and i need it to be free of charge as im not paying for it, its not in my garden. but im concerned about the kids playing near it. algy
It's almost certainly a bumblebee nest. If you don't bother them they'll not bother you. They're much more docile than wasps and honeybees. In the autumn they'll die off, the queen will hibernate, and next spring she'll go and look for a new nesting place.
grababargin
as long as its not in my blooming garden, im terrified of them, and now knowing it so close to my garden i dont know if i'll go out now. i rang enviroment health (pest control but they say they charge £73 to remove it) they called mining bees
skippy
Ordinary fly or insect spray will get rid of them, but you have to spray the area or down the hole at dusk when they're in bed.
Bulgarian
Considering bees numbers are falling all over the country coudn't you just ignore them, or avoid them, do you have to kill them ?

RootsBooster
'Fat wasps'!? ... There's a new one! Underground dwelling fat wasps to boot! I've seen this before, it's a sad situation. The wasps actually live underground BECAUSE they have become so fat. They eventually reach a size where they just can't physically leave the burrow, until a medical emergency occurrs and the fire & rescue services have to remove a window and lift the wasps out with a crane
