At least 1400 skilled jobs lost thanks to government

Recommended Posts

Don't go thinking the current government are somehow innocent in this matter. Them and Labour are as guilty as each other in allowing this situation to develop.

Quite, but in this neck of the woods, plenty will claim 'it's Maggie's fault'.

Hardly a day goes by without another example of how our political classes are seemingly hell-bent on running the UK down.

I have no doubt that various bribes and backhanders come into play with the granting of contracts such as this. Yet our politicians refuse to sully their hands on such behaviour. Unless it's their expenses.

This is quite a good article. (Sorry, Rich. It's from the Daily Mail so don't bother with your usual 'Daily FAIL. Meh. IMHO etc. In fact, just don't bother.)

And which party was in power between Thatcher's and Cameron's? Why didn't they reverse any of these decisions if they were so bad?

As for "railway engineering excellence" lets not forget it was locals in Sheffield and members of this forum who orchestrated a campaign to STOP an railway engineering centre in Beighton. So much for "local jobs for local people". That obviously doesn't apply to NIMBYism.

Why hasn't it been reversed now?

What is wrong with some of your people.

Its business pure and simple.

The germans won the bid. They had a better product and better terms than the uk suppliers. They will bring in 2000 jobs to replace the alleged 1400 lossed.

You really think its ok to spend money on an inferior product just because its made in britain by uk workers. Have you took a look around some of the items in your house.... all made in the UK are they? :loopy:

The germans may have lost the war.

But 70 years later, they are winning all the contracts.

Imagine if Adolf Hitler was in charge of Germany now, he would not need to start a war. He would just allow the British political class to run the country into the ground.

The seeds of rot for the demise of Derby as a centre of railway engineering excellence were laid by Thatcher in the '80's when she sold off the then British Rail Engineering, Cameron is administering the last rites.

who cares.....don't like derby anyway.....move the jobs to doncaster...

Are you confused?

You'll be pleased that the new government has just extended a line of credit to allow Siemens' Sheffield plant to sell steel making equipment to Brazil.

Won't you?
