wednesday1
Wednesday1 you should educate yourself and watch episode 3 of Made in Britain presented by Evan Davies which was on BBC2 yesterday. What happened with the decline of UK manufacturing and the growth of the service sector was inevitable, and much as I'm sure you'd disagree because it leaves you with nobody to blame, politicians including Thatcher had little influence to exert control over an emerging global economy, like a rabbit trying to control a tiger. Don't bother trying to patronise me, I'm old enough to remember what they did. Funny how Germany and the rest of the western economies didn't suffer the loss we did. It was all part of the demented wretch's plan to turn the UK into some sort of Swiss economy.

Go on watch the programme. There was no deliberate plan. We were good at making stuff, but other countries got good at making stuff too. It was always bound to happen. ECCOnoob
The germans may have lost the war. But 70 years later, they are winning all the contracts. Imagine if Adolf Hitler was in charge of Germany now, he would not need to start a war. He would just allow the British political class to run the country into the ground. What's that got to do with anything. Jesus you must really be getting desparate to make a comment....... like a child making a noise just to get attention. Never worked in the business world have you?
ECCOnoob
Be interesting to know what Winston Churchill would have done? Not a lot considering he is dead. Clutching at straws or what . Lets say someone has £10 of taxpayers money to spend. They get two offers. One is for a polished turd called, lets say a Leyland 2011. Its made in britain by british staff who go on strike every time there is a week in the month. It is also slightly more expensive than the budget and will not quite fit the capacity required. Another is a shiny thing manufactured by a foreign company with a reliable track record of production and which suits the needs required for a cheaper price. Which would you go for?? The fact is siemens have a good record with their trains already used on London Midland, South West, Transpennine and Scotrail all using them. They also have an even better reputation abroad with foreign rail including several high speed routes in asia and metro train/tram routes. Its obvious the bid from Bombardier was not good enough. Thatcher, Hitler, Cameron, Clegg, Doogle, Bill and Ben or anyone else you care to name simply had nothing to with it. The contract will still bring in 2000 jobs. If the figures in the media are correct that's 600 MORE than the ones that are going to be lost. What exactly is the problem?

That we didn't get ALL of the jobs, like a German or French company would have if the tender was in Germany or France. That is the problem.
