Scrap men should be stopped stealing

Recommended Posts

This is of nothing new to me , we purchase scrap metals and pay the customer for them now there is no way of telling if such items are stolen obliviosly you will have a incline buy the typical person and reciepts are made with number plates etc , if scrap yards refusedto buy all goods fetched in then they would just take them to someone else down the road who would purchase them .

transport police are always checking on daily basis along with local plod for stolen items , we offten recive calls from the public giving info on there stolen items etc to which should they come in the rightfull owner would be informed but still a tricky situation to be in .

you will always get good and bad in the world some are genuine some are not but police are doing regular checks on insurances and waste carriers licences etc which can only be a good thing .

If you made them fill out a waste transfer note and checked their carriers licence this would sort out some of the problem. You would only be accepting waste from legal dealers. It is your legal obligation to do this unless they are talking in their own waste ie a domestic person which would be a one off not regular.

exactly but even the big comapnys will not ask for waste carriers licence and as a rule the ones who steal stuff take it to newark where they no cn get away with what they like from what i have been told .

all new customers have to provide 2 forms of ID to verify who they say they are not only to cover our own backs should the items turn stolen

and its not legal obligation and if so many scrap yards are breaking the law including the big companys

IT IS a legal obligation for all involved in the chain! If you or they knew the first thing about waste management you would not have made this silly statement. A waste transfer note shows where the waste has originated from, including company name, address and a contact, process generating the waste, who is removing the waste, their licence details and the licence details of the receiving' scrap yard' site. A copy of this should be left with the waste producer so all the scrap yard has to do is to contact the waste producer to verify it. They just turn a blind eye or are ill educated and don't understand waste legislation.

Look on the Environment Agency website if you don't believe me.
