crookesey
You've got to laugh, some of the brits abroad are living in yesteryear. I worry more about catching something nasty in the UK, than I do in a civilized continental country.
Nagel
In future we will take one but expected a kettle to be standard equipment in an hotel room. A lot of countries don't use kettles and people don't even have one at home. They're only ubiquitous in this country because we're a nation of tea drinkers and need a way of boiling water to make tea. In coffee drinking nations you will often find only a coffee making machine. For instance, go and stay in a self catering place in Italy and you'll find a Mokka, but no kettle. They wouldn't provide a kettle in a hotel room as they don't drink instant coffee.

barleycorn
Just to go back to the OP... Whilst on holiday abroad in the Canary Islands we bought bottles of drinking water instead of drinking the tap water. Is it really detrimental to drink tap water in hotels ? ... you're on holiday so why are you drinking anything that does not contain alcohol? jb

Is it really detrimental to drink tap water in hotels ? There is generally nothing wrong with water abroad its just the minerals are different to the water in our country,if you drink there water it can give you the s...., your digestive system is a fine balance of acids and alkalize and that balance can easily be upset,it doesn't take your system long to get used to different water but if you are on holiday its better to drink bottled water.
