Happ Hazzard
IMO we should recolonise Africa. It will probably happen in all but name anyway as the Chinese and others get involved.
Nagel
What happened to all the millions raised in the last 20 or so years for this area? It was spent on keeping people alive as will be the millions raised for the current drought and lack of food.
Anna B
What we need to see is where our donations go; right from the start (from leaving our pockets), straight to the ones who need it. Why has this never been done ? - why have these chain of events never been published or seen ? The Department For International Development (DFID) was set up in 1997 to do just this at a cost of £2.6 billion. Nevertheless, the DFID's 250 strong staff in Ethiopia failed to monitor the spending of nearly £300 million. However, far from heads rolling as you might expect, the 3 government appointees in charge, decided to award themselves a payrise to over £200,000 each, plus bonuses. Out of our taxes! Nice work if you can get it....

ukdobby
It was spent on keeping people alive as will be the millions raised for the current drought and lack of food. You would think some would have been spent to make it not happen again,ie getting water from the sea and making it fit for use.
ukdobby
Zimbabwe was a nice country to live in, now it's a hellhole, one of the poorest countries on earth. South Africa is rapidly going the same way. 50 years ago whites emigrated to Rhodesia, now they are not running it the blacks want to come here, whats that tell us? The Joker
Looks like Somalia and Ethiopia have been slugging it out between each other over the past few years. Two of the poorest countries on earth, blowing each other up. They're unable to feed their own populations but they can acquire weapons to use against each other http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6159735.stm http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/dec/27/ethiopia
