beadle1 Posted July 12, 2011 Share Posted July 12, 2011 As a regular of the pubs in Ranmoor, I have watched with utter disbelief at what seems to be the unstoppable demise of the Bulls Head. This used to be a lovely pub, full of friendly people it was always clean with very good staff and some excellent beers and after changing manager so many times in recent months I hear the present manager has left, when is this fiasco going to end?? If the present owners can`t get it right let me throw a name in the hat, Bring Graham Back the Bull has never been the same since he left. Does anyone else agree? I have always found him to be a pleasent and sociable bloke and he lets me take a jug of ale round to the tandoori house when i go for a meal, can't beat that. Unfortunately lots of pubs seem to have not as much gone down hill but seem to be a lot quieter than they used to be but i think this is due to a lack of disposable income and unfair taxes on alcohol drunk in pubs. This sums up why the BH has gone downhill since Graham left since it lost its way and started to focus only on the Sky telly / lager crowd who have now sodded off home to smoke and drink in front of the goggle box. In its Graham heyday (I would say 1990-1995?) it was more like a village pub and the people who drank in there would rather be out and paying to be sociable than sat drinking 50 p cans of lager at home. Ranmoor is a pretty affluent area so cost was not the issue. The place had a great mixed crowd - people in for the football - plenty in eating Grahams cheap but decent grub and all the monied locals who were in mostly every day giving the place a very homely and familiar feel. Sadly , even if Graham were brought back , it wont be the same as West 10 , The Ranmoor and the Rising Sun have all pinched the trade (and rightly so as they all do a good job). Yes, The Plough has again closed for the umpteenth time and, from what I'm hearing from another local landlord, Hawk Inns are claiming they 'forgot to renew the licences.' On all their pubs. They now have to go through the entire process of re-applying for a licence to serve alcoholic beverages etc. Could take weeks and, if enough people in the area (including, I'd imagine every local landlord) object, it will be refused. Signs in The Plough this morning from the Council stating that a 'licence has been applied for'. As well as skinners accurate assessment, I feel the days of a landlord being a vocational job are over. Instead, we get people who have probably been made redundant, realise they're getting nowhere on the job-finding front and think 'I might as well run a pub.' Pity.
