Poetry at Bishops House - Fri 15th July 7.30pm

Please come along to our first Bishops House Poetry Evening, this Friday July 15th 7.30pm. We have a number of published poets (see below) doing readings, an interlude of Korean traditional music, free wine and refreshments!

 

Tickets are £6 which can be paid for on arrival. Please reserve your place by e-mailing events@bishopshouse.org.uk or leave a message on 0114 2581174 with your contact details.

 

Bishops House is a lovely 'Tudor' historic building at the top of Meersbrook Park (Norton Lees Lane, Sheffield, S8 9BE) - and is the perfect venue for small arts types events like this.

 

The Poets:

Helen Tookey has published a monograph on Anaïs Nin (OUP, 2003), scholarly articles and short fiction. Her short collection Telling the Fractures, a collaboration with photographer Alan Ward, was published by Axis Projects in 2008. Helen's poetry will feature in the forthcoming Carcanet anthology New Poetries V.

 

Evan Jones was born in Toronto and now lives in Manchester. His first collection, Nothing Fell Today But Rain (2003), was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry. His second collection, Paralogues, is forthcoming with Carcanet.

 

Vincenz Serrano is currently working on a PhD in Creative Writing and English and American Studies at the University of Manchester. His book The Collapse of What Separates Us was published by High Chair in 2010. It won first prize for poetry in the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in the Philippines in 2009.

 

Lucy Burnett is the author of Variations on an Urban Monotone, she is studying for a PhD in creative writing at Salford University, where she also teaches. Her poetry is quite experimental in form, with an ecological slant.

 

Eun-Jung Kim will be playing traditional Korean music on the Geomongo.
