The problem appears to be the old Orange order parades chestnut - the Orangemen want to march, and the catholic communities rightly or wrongly don't want them to. Hence the violence. Minus a few ex-commanders who have landed themselves a cushy number at Stormont. , and why?The same reason as usual: turf war. Power, influence and income. Now that sectarianism is officially out, both sides are still scrambling to find replacement 'badges' to shadow the usual drugs/arms/influence/extortion/trafficking/etc. that they have always done. Some people just can't be helped (shoulder-shrugging icon).
