Hambeast
A quote from the article: "DS Fenwick and up to nine other members of the “Operation Ben” team then came together around 8pm on Tuesday at a local family pizzeria to down more beer and wine. The restaurant owner said the team downed 17 pints of beer as well as several glasses of wine before paying their 67 Euro bill." So thats what, just over 2 pints of lager each and maybe 2 glasses of wine each. Hardly a booze-up, is it? You cant expect them to be over there working 24 hours a day, there are two sides to every story and nobody knows who paid for the alcohol (them or the expenses account). And if your ead the complete story the drinking carried on after leaving the restaurant, and yes you can't expect them to be on the case 24/7, they may well have been talking about the case while having a drink. But you know as well as me that at the moment all eyes are on the South Yorkshire Police after the recent events thats happened and any news of this type will be blown out of context. iansheff
No matter if they have only had a couple of drinks each and then a couple more later when they got back to the hotel they were very naive. As therascal says any news of this type will be blown out of context due to the fact that the media are focused on SYP after Hillsborough, the child sex scandal and calls for an inquiry into Orgreave. We know they want to find Ben and what happened to him, maybe they should have thought about the consequences of being seen out drinking. They need down time after working, same as other people but they ought to have thought it out.
Bargepole23
As sad as this case is, there must be more pressing uses for the huge amount of money spent on this single missing persons case by SYP/Home Office.
gomgeg
As sad as this case is, there must be more pressing uses for the huge amount of money spent on this single missing persons case by SYP/Home Office. It is sad, there are hundreds of people go missing every year, and it would not be practical to spend millions on each one. But they're not all in Kos. What amazes me about this is after Hillsborough, Orgreave, the Rotherham scandal and how they informed the media about the search at Cliff Richards property, they still can't show a bit of common sense and keep a low profile. Two senior officers are reportedly out there one of who has been recalled and an internal inquiry will just cover up the whole story.
geared
The officers need to be more aware of what they're doing when in the public eye, but it's hardly a story. They had a meal and a couple of drinks?? So what, are they not allowed to eat and drink now?? Attempting to make it seem like they were out all night on a bender really is gutter journalism. kidley
If they had been seen coming out of a bar worse for drink, that would be a story, they wasn't. gutter press
Nagel
Why do the police always go out to Kos just when it starts to get hot in the Med? Bit of a jolly?
