manofstrad
Hillsborough part of Barnsley, never heard that one, the barracks were always in Sheffield, no sorry can't have that. Perhaps the barracks have always been in Sheffield while Hillsborough has been part of Sheffield? Dunno!
crookesey
Perhaps the barracks have always been in Sheffield while Hillsborough has been part of Sheffield? Dunno! I have been back 400 years and can't find any Barnsley connection, it's only 3 miles from Sheffield City Centre, so it's highly unlikely. My great grandmother was born in Grenoside in 1874, and although nearer than Hillsborough to Barnsley, it still wasn't part of Barnsley.

Perhaps it was a group of Barnsley folk that settled in Hillsborough back in the olden days and the group expanded and eventualy took over most of the area? That would explain a lot. By the way, it's common knowledge that Grenoside has nothing to do with Barnsley.
