How to punish uninsured drivers.

Recommended Posts

All vehicles should have to display a card that says it is insured, taxed and MOT’d and it should be illegal to sell fuel to anyone that doesn’t have a card.

Jolly good idea.

But they'll need to show the card prior to filling up imho.

There'd be no need though seeing as every driver is required to produce their MOT and insurance policy in order to tax their car. So a valid tax disc would suffice wouldn't it?

Edit:

Afterthought- unless an insured driver bought a car that was taxed and mot'd.

Ignore me it's early.

Card reader on pump and vehicle registration recognition technology, there would be a cost in setting it up but would it be more than is spent on catching them and taking them to court.

That is a good idea, I think in France they have to display just such a card, L00b could probably confirm it.

The only problem is that it wouldn't confirm that the driver at the time is insured to drive the car.

Driving without insurance, I feel, should warrant an automatic suspension of one's driving licence.

Driving while disqualified is equivalent to contempt of court, and should be punished accordingly. I would suggest six months, for a first such offence.

Id go with this.

Its too sensible an idea to ever happen though.

Tax, MOT, insurance, points, fines ... blagghh! Don't bother.

1. Never spend more than £500 on a car.

2. Never have it registered in your name.

3. Always carry sufficient cash.

4. If you are involved in a minor accident, drive off if possible.

5. If you are involved in a minor accident and it is not possible to drive off, pretend not to speak English, assess cost of the third-party damage and wave sufficient cash in front of the other driver until they go away.

6. If you are involved in a major accident, drive off if possible, or run away.

7. If police involved, refer to 5., but don't involve cash.

8. Go back to 1.

Cheap as chips driving.

:hihi::hihi::hihi:

The card would have been given to the insured driver and would have the registration number of the insured car on it.
