Look no further! Please find below a list of upcoming bookbinding workshops led by Archive Books at the Showroom Cafe. DATE: 12th August 2011, 11 - 5pm VENUE: Showroom Cafe, Sheffield ADDRESS: Paternoster Row, Sheffield S1 2BX CONTACT: victoria_lucas@me.com WORKSHOP TITLE: Beginner’s Bookbinding and Artist’s Books PRICE: £35.00 This practical one day workshop covers various bookbinding techniques, including how to create an A5 hardbound book, a small concertina book and an A5 Japanese stab binding. Victoria displays a selection of her own artist’s books in this session, and will discuss the conceptual elements of her practise as well as showing examples of other artist’s work. All materials will be provided, however participants are welcome to bring any materials or ideas they would like to use to create there own artist’s books; such as paper, end papers and binding cloth. Paper should be A4 for the hardbound, A1 / A2 for the Concertina, and A5 for the Japanese stab bound book. At the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a selection of books that can be taken home. A handout detailing the techniques learned will also be provided for future reference. Victoria displays a selection of her own artist’s books in this session, and will discuss the conceptual elements of her practice as well as showing examples of other artist’s work. All materials will be provided, however participants are welcome to bring any materials or ideas they would like to use to create there own artist’s books; such as paper, end papers and binding cloth of various dimensions. At the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a selection of books that can be taken home. A handout detailing the techniques learned will also be provided for future reference. Archive Books is the publishing name used for a series of artist's books produced by Victoria Lucas over the past three years. A selection of these books can be found in special collections across the UK, including the Brotherton Library Leeds, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Tate Britain, London. They have been exhibited in various Artist Book Fairs across the country, and have also been part of touring exhibitions, traveling to various galleries in Europe, America, and Mexico. Victoria Lucas creates artist's books that record places and objects specific to the notion of time continuum. Consisting of photography, scanned images and text, her books present collections of these subjects in a way that draw attention to categories through their function, history and cultural references.
