Jeffrey Shaw
there is always one spelling nazi isn't there No. Nazism is nothing to do with spelling accuracy. One man's pedantry is another man's accuracy.
Jeffrey Shaw
Thanks. I'm sure I remember getting marks taken off my essay at University for not using an apostrophe to denote possession. Are there any exceptions to the rule? Yes. Some hold that the words already ending 's' are treated differently. So " Mr. Matthew's " [i.e. of Mr Matthew] but " Mr. Matthews' " [i.e. of Mr Matthews]. buck
spell check, read what you write. this includes me if you have microsoft word, copy and paste into that, find your spelling mistakes and then copy back. if you are more technically savvy, use an add-on in firefox or extension in chrome to automatically highlight your mistakes. if you cannot do any of the above and are still having difficulty with your spelling, just google the worlds you are unsure about. google will correct it for you if its wrong to a point, but if its so wrong google cant figure it out, you're screwed Remember spell check doesn't work on homophones. I have seen many cases of using 'there' for the possessive 'their' for example.

One man's pedantry is another man's accuracy. .. and some people try and point out errors made by others just so they can feel better about themselves, its rather sad but all too common. laineyiow
When it comes to "it's" and "its" all you need to remember is the ONLY meaning for IT'S is IT IS!!! It doesn't mean anything else and it isn't used as a possessive - that is ITS!
