Sheffield Steeldogs v Hull Stingrays in Yorkshire Cup

Recommended Posts

As initially announced last week, Andre Payette is delighted that Sylvain Cloutier's Hull Stingrays and his Steeldogs will be resurrecting the pre-season Yorkshire Cup in a Challenge game, which will take place on Tuesday 30th August, face-off 7.30pm.

This opening match of the season offers the Steeldogs' fans their first chance to watch their 2011-12 team in competitive action with some silverware to be won. As Sheffield welcome Hull Stingrays back to iceSheffield, Stingrays' fans will be familiar with a few of this season's Steeldogs' players, especially three of their ex-players, more recently Pavel Gomenuik and Andrew Hirst, plus Stuart Brittle from back in 2003-04 . Others who trained last season with the Elite team included Ben Bowns, who is now on a two-way contract with them, Chris Sykes and Craig Elliott.

It will be a great opportunity for the Steeldogs Premier League players to test themselves out against an Elite League team. With players on both sides no doubt intent on creating a good early impression on their respective coaches, it promises to be an entertaining evening.

Coach Andre Payette is enthusiastic about having this opportunity for his team to face a higher quality team saying 'I and my players are looking forward to kick-starting our season against Elite League opposition in this Exhibition game but with the possibility of winning the Yorkshire Cup at the end'.

Traditionally Sheffield have proved themselves to be no pushover against Elite opposition, as fans witnessed the last time the two clubs met in 2009-10 when Pasi Raitanen and Ben Bowns kept their team in a close 2-0 battle against Hull, plus the 5-2 and 3-3 results against Steelers in the recent past.

Andre appeals to all hockey fans in Sheffield and Hull to 'Come and join us at iceSheffield on Tuesday 30th August at 7.30pm. I would especially love to see some great support from all our fans, past and present, to give a warm welcome to our new season's signings as well as the many returning Sheffield players. I would also like to invite all our's and Stingrays' fans to join the players at The Noose and Gibbett after the game to round off the evening'.

The ticket prices for this Challenge game will be: Adults £9.00, Child £3.50, Concessions £6.50, Family £20.00.

Tickets will be available for purchase on the night at the Steeldogs' desk at iceSheffield, or via the new on-line service(in the relaunch of our website in about a weeks time).

We look forward to seeing you all down at iceSheffield for this game.
