£5.00 light bulbs

Thankfully I've still got a cupboard full from the last time there was a silly subsidy offer - 99p for one bulb or ten for £1, wonder if anyone actually just bought one?

 

I bought just one.

 

But only because some idiot in front of me was buying nine, and I did a deal.

I'm too used to spending £130 on a single lamp to find £1.29 expensive. Doesn't last as long either... Bit brighter at 1200W though.

Whats happened with the cost of lightbulbs? The government said companies couldn't make lightbulbs that they have sold for the past twenty years for only 17p-22p. To save the world we can now only buy the "eco" ones...At Tescos they are now £5.00 and no doubt in five years time they'l be costing £10 each. Does anyone know if the government get any extra tax from these changing prices or are they only thinking of our long term welfare?

You seem to have a some kind of genius for finding the worst possible deal for yourself, I bought a bunch of low energy lightbulbs at tesco a while back and they were 11p each. They're on sale all over the place for about £1.

'Proper' lightbulbs do at least work from the first moment. 'New-style' ones take increasingly long to warm-up.

You can get the Japanese ones, pretty much the same as Philips, just pronounced Phirrips.
