Happ Hazzard
I voted for Blair, to my eternal shame. I will never vote Labour again.
upinwath
I'm not defending him personally, just his right to defend what is in his contract. If the NUM signed it in 2002, and agreed to it then, then they have no complaints to make now. I met the NUM leadership regarding some business about five years ago. What a bunch of useless plonkers. No clue at all. The miners were proper screwed by Scargill, not Thatcher. Scargill wanted to use industrial power to bring down Thatcher but she was far too clever for the idiot. If you want someone to blame for the destruction of the coal industry, try red Arthur, the guy with a lovely house, a very nice free flat in London and a selection of cars. Does brother Arthur sound like a mate or one of the bosses? Face it, you were conned by the idiot. Now just accept it and move on.
Rupert_Baehr
At least some people did well under Thatcher. Scargill was a crook, pure and simple. So what does that make Thatcher? The Lady of Loxley?
Lady Star
So the great King Arthur Scargill is suing his pay masters the NUM because they want to take away his grace and favour penthouse which the miners have been paying for since the miners strike + other perks that he still gets and for what exactly .Seem's he learnt a thing or two from Margret Thatcher, if you can't beat em,join em:thumbsup:. Personally the man's a hypocrite. Newsflash - he always was! As someone who recalls the strike, it seems he hasn't changed a bit! He wasn't alone - Richardson in Derbyshire was lining his own pockets too... Two legs good, and all that... Sadly, power corrupts...
kidley
he wasnt beaten by thatcher far from it he was beaten by a section of mineworkers not to far from here who decided not to strike and thought they would get looked after by thatcher "and what happened"

Chris_Sleeps
Face it, you were conned by the idiot. Now just accept it and move on. I was far too young to have even noticed Arthur. I was learning to sit on the loo when he was in full flight.
Chris_Sleeps
... Socialist roots but loves the trappings of the 'middle classes'. Nothing stops politics transcending class. To force all left wing thought back into a council house is silly. Where has the sense of 'desert' gone? If Scargill worked hard and the NUM were happy to pay for his flat then he has earnt it through hard work, surely? That is the argument in favour of Fred Goodwin's pension. Conrod
Scoggle probably did more to damage the livelihoods of miners than did Thatcher. He might've been a nasty piece of work, but he wasn't a thick piece of work. He was smart enough to feather his own bed and he did so well. It's difficult not to admire him for his skills and his ability to look after himself. A true scion of 1970's Labour. 'The working class can kiss my arse, I've got the foreman's job at last.' I hope they engrave that on his tombstone. Spot on. He epitomises left wing hypocrisy - as does every union leader who draws a wage above that of a floor sweeper.
