margarete
It's getting a fatter tum. See http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-07-earth-fatter.html I reckon it's Globesity.
Mecky
I certainly am, I not so sure about the Earth.
HeadingNorth
Very interesting link, thanks for that. I understand the Earth gains about a million tons a year of extra mass in the form of meteoroids colliding with it. It's hard to comprehend the concept of a million tons of extra material a year being such a triflingly small amount that it makes no noticeable difference whatsoever. That's impressive, and yet presumably it must be insignificant when compared to the actual Mass of the Earth. We wouldn't want to have a significant affect on its orbital path... I for one don't want to collide with the sun

If I recall the amount of zeros correctly, the Earth's mass is around six thousand million million million tonnes.
Bulgarian
I understand the Earth gains about a million tons a year of extra mass in the form of meteoroids colliding with it. So gravity is increasing too ?
HeadingNorth
So gravity is increasing too ? Yes, but in four thousand million years the total amount of increase is not even one millionth of one percent. If you can get your head around such staggeringly large numbers, you're a better mathematician than I am.
Bulgarian
I must be getting fatter then, I was hoping to blame gravity.
0742Sheff
They found that melting glaciers Greenland and Antarctica were indeed the biggest contributors to the Earth's growing spare tire If it's a good enough excuse for the Earth, it's a good excuse for my midriff expanding. Damn those glaciers!
